Ilminster launches Young Citizen of the Year Awards

(Ilminster)

The Rotary Club of Ilminster, in association with the Western Gazette and South Somerset District Council, is launching a new Award: Young Citizen of the Year Award 2008.

These new awards, which could be emulated in other towns, are a good example of honouring local young people's efforts, exemplifying the positive part they can play in our communities instead of focussing on the negative. Ilminster Rotary Club have worked hard to get the partners for this and should be congratulated.

The details are:

The Award is intended to acknowledge the successes of those young people who make an outstanding contribution to life for the benefit of others around them. All nominees must be aged 17 or under on 31 August 2007 and reside in Ilminster or the surrounding district.  Nominees for the Award must be a young citizen who fulfils one or more of the following criteria:

  • Has made an outstanding contribution to the life of the community
  • Has overcome a serious disability in helping others
  • Is a long term carer or provider
  • Has given outstanding service for the benefit of the community.

In fulfilling any or all of these criteria, nominees must have benefited the communities in which they live, work or are being educated and by their actions or their role in society have had a significant impact on their lives and on the lives of others in those communities.

The first prize will be £150 plus a trophy and the 3 runners up will each receive a prize of £75.
