Connecting Transition Initiatives with Community-Led Planning

Somerset Market Towns Forum has helped to bring together Transition initiatives and Community-Led Planning at two recent meetings in South Somerset.
We facilitated Transition Langport attending the South Somerset Market Town Investment Group (MTIG), which is a part of South Somerset Together, the Local Strategic Partnership.
Duncan and Cara gave a summary of the Transition guiding principles and there was a short discussion that touched on the developing world's take on Peak Oil and Climate Change and also what constituted an 'official' Transition initiative.
They subsequently supplied two documents for MTIG Members (many of whom are also SMTF Members) which we include below.

'Breathe' is South Petherton's Transition Initiative, who have been running for afew months showing films and awareness-raising events and held their first Open Meeting on 19th Sept.

South Petherton Parish Council (as the ongoing 'champions' of the 2005 Parish Plan) are now members of SMTF and we are keen to help them connect with Breathe at both a project-delivery level and if any review of the Parish Plan is undertaken. SMTF attended the Open Meeting and encouraged Breathe to look at delivering Parish Plan projects that fit the Transition principles.

Read more about Breathe on their pages, part of the Transition Network website.
